Learning inside and outside of the classroom

Today, after a few lessons in school, we headed to Essen to visit two very important German museums: Zollverein and the Red Dot design museum. As we waited for the U-Bahn, there were many German sandwiches and sweets on display for the hungry passers by.

LSA students enjoying the sunshine before the the museum visits.

Both museums are amazing in thier own right and offer both the old and the new vision of the Ruhr region of Germany.

The Zollverein is the old coal mining museum where we had a tour guide tell us about its history. The red dot is a personal favourite as it highlights the new technology and design ideas from around the world.

From bathtubs to bicycles to toilets and stereo systems the museum had everything that you may not have even thought was designed or even invented!
Morgan: The two museums that we visited today were amazing and interesting. There were lots of modern cool things in the red dot design museum no the Ruhr museum was fascinating because it was full of historical things. After me and Lara did some arts and crafts and I made a really nice photo frame 😊
Ally: I rode on a horse for the first time and Annika helped me and held showed me what to do 🐴😄

Many of these ideas are, of course, German engineering. The exhibition is a hands on exhibit and everyone can try the innovations with the idea that you may want to invest in something new!

Following this we had lunch in nearby small restaurant, a sort of take away on the site of the museums and then we returned to Muhlheim for a free night for students and a cookery lesson for the teachers!
Sally: Irode a paint horse today western style it was very fun !!! ❤️❤️

Germany's very own Heston Blumenthal!

And the finished products!

Tomorrow we will be in school in the morning and have another visit in the afternoon! Stay tuned!!
